Lamar Small, CFA - Managing Partner

Lamar Small is the Founder and Managing Partner of Silver Beach Capital Partners. A native of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Lamar brings together 15 years of investment experience and six years of engineering expertise to drive the acquisition and operation of small businesses.

Before founding Silver Beach Capital Partners, Lamar served as Investment Director at the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, where he led a team overseeing investment selection, due diligence, and portfolio management for the Trust’s $8.5 billion Private Credit portfolio. His prior roles include Senior Hedge Fund Researcher at Mercer, Quantitative Modeling Associate at Credit Risk Management, and Industrials Equity Analyst at NCM Capital. Earlier in his career, Lamar spent six years managing international projects and designing components for leading automotive OEMs and suppliers.

Lamar earned an MBA in Investment Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, where he also minored in Japanese Studies. Fluent in Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese, he has three years of international experience, having lived in both Japan and Brazil. A CFA Charterholder, Lamar is an active member of UNC’s Investment Management Action Council.

In his free time, Lamar enjoys speed chess (with an unofficial rating above 2300), drumming, and global travel, having visited 50 countries.
